About NaN Druid

Druid by name, Druid in nature. Mystic, magical and metaphysical, Druid is a two-headed font family that imagines and actualises the worlds of histories and the unexpected from the minds of Co-Archdruids Reymund Schröder and Anna Khorash. Conjured into a being of dual realms, the family features a serif and a sans-serif that share matching proportions and weights but diverge in their contrasting styles. The serif, uniquely, offers a lower contrast, lending it a text-friendly subtlety, while the sans-serif, with its higher contrast, commands attention as a display powerhouse while still having a choking legibility at text-size. This versatility is your power to wield. 

The creation of such a beast can only occur through collaborative alchemy, born from the shared space where creativity brews. Here, Schröder and Khorash engaged in a symbiotic design process, imagining and reimagining the typeface as a living, evolving entity, each given equal authorship from the very beginning. The powerful pair planted Druid’s roots in a Jenson-adjacent, hybrid style that beautifully vibrates between antique and slab serifs. Druid Sans borrows its sibling’s humanist structure and applies it to a crystal-clear sans serif with very open counters. Its endings oscillate between flared and tapered, subtly giving away its calligraphic roots while infusing it with a sharp-but-not-spiky undertaste.

As such, both the families offer graphic clarity with a lucid, reduced structure, making them versatile across both display and text settings. With weights ranging from a delicate monolinear thin to a robust black, Druid and Druid Sans proudly present a spectrum of expression, each form sharply defined and purposefully crafted for visual impact.

Dowsing rods at the ready, Khorash and Schröder discovered greater inspiration from the mystical and the natural world, incorporating elements that echo our ancient connection to the earth and the esoteric. The distribution of stone axes serves as a significant indicator of prehistoric trade. To determine the origin of stone blades, a technique called thin sectioning is employed. In Europe, Neolithic ‘axe factories,’ where thousands of ground stone axes were roughly hewn, have been discovered in various locations, such as: Great Langdale, England (tuff) | Rathlin Island, Ireland (porcellanite) | Krzemionki, Poland (flint) | Neolithic flint mines of Spiennes, Belgium (flint) | Plancher-les-Mines, France (pelite) | Aosta Valley, Italy (omphacite). From the late Neolithic/Chalcolithic periods onwards, axes were crafted from copper or copper alloyed with arsenic. These axes were flat and hafted similarly to their stone counterparts. With the advent of Bronze metallurgy, the production method evolved, leading to the development of the ‘flanged axe’, followed by palstaves, and eventually winged and socketed axes.

Our Pitch License offers access to complete, full-featured fonts for internal trial and pitch purposes only at a 70% discount. This allows you to test-drive and present our fonts in your mockups before project sign-off.

We offer an 80% discount to students and educators. Students may use licensed fonts for both school projects and commercial ones during and after their studies, as long as they work for companies with less than 6 employees. No I.D required, we trust you.
